Meet J. Harris: A Legacy in Barbering & Education

Janarius “J-Roc” Harris is a Licensed Barber and Barber Instructor with a passion for precision, artistry, and mentorship. Born and raised in Belzoni, MS, his journey began at the young age of 13 when he started cutting his family members’ hair. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a calling that would take him across the country and onto some of the biggest stages in the barbering industry.

After high school, J. Harris proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). His four years of service instilled in him discipline, leadership, and a relentless work ethic—qualities that would later define his success in the barbering world. Upon completing his service, he pursued his professional barbering career at Trendsetters Barber College in Jackson, MS, where he began competing in barber competitions, earning recognition as a rising star in the industry.

 

Upon receiving both his Barber’s License and Barber Instructor License, J. Harris relocated to Houston, TX, where he quickly became one of the city’s most sought-after barbers. His talent and dedication led him to compete in barber battles nationwide, ultimately earning 9 Barber Battle Championship titles. His skills even landed him a spot on Cedric’s Barber Battle on the CW Network, solidifying his status as an elite barber.

 

Beyond cutting hair, J. Harris is passionate about education and mentorship. He has traveled across the U.S. and internationally, sharing his knowledge as an educator for Sport Clips, Gibs Grooming, Da Gauge, and Bronner Brothers, among others. His expertise has taken him as far as Australia, where he taught at the Adelaide Hair Show and was featured in Barber Shop Magazine Australia.

His career has also included work in film, music, and sports, serving as a barber to celebrities, professional athletes, and entertainers, including:

J. Harris has worked at prestigious events such as Austin City Limits, Winter X Games 2025, and Bronner Brothers Shows, and served as a Monster Energy Barber Battle Judge. His work has been featured in Barber EVO Magazine and multiple industry publications.

Harris Barber Academy, LLC, he is dedicated to training the next generation of elite barbers. His academy provides hands-on training, expert guidance, and real-world experience, ensuring that every student graduates with the skills, confidence, and business knowledge needed to thrive in the barbering industry.
